Alex Savvides Biography

Alex Savvides was 16 when he first got behind the turntables at the infamous south London acid house club ZIGI’S in south London-the very same club, where a young Paul Oakenfold and Trevor Fung ran a hip hop night called “funhouse”, soon to become “project”.

Alex started his own mid week Balearic night, “Casablanca”, after hearing and falling in love with the Balearic sounds played by Alfredo in Amnesia in 1988 and acid house . Over the next 2 years Alex became one of the main DJS at ZIGI’S and was not only promoting his own night but also guesting for other promoters and playing alongside Carl Cox every weekend.

More gigs followed through the 90s until Alex decided to hang up his headphones because he had become disillusioned by the scene by 1996, it had gone too commercial for his taste.

Fast forward 20 years and Alex is back promoting and DJ’ing, with a hugely successful Balearic club night “We are Balearic” with guest DJ’S that have included Marshall Jefferson, Justin Robertson, Alfredo, Farley Jackmaster Funk and Danny Rampling , to name just a few that have headlined at WAB parties so far!
He has also produced a documentary about the acid house scene “Generation Acid” featuring interviews with Oakenfold, Ramping, Farley and all the big names from the last 30 years.

As well as promoting his own nights, Alex has been very busy DJ’ing all over the UK as well as Ibiza, Croatia and Las Vegas. With bookings coming in already for Australia and Chicago, 2019 looks like a very good year for the man that has brought the Balearic Ibiza inspired sound right back again, not only for the original acid house generation, but a whole new young crowd that are enjoying hearing those original Balearic anthems, as well as the new music that Alex is so keen to play.

Alex is currently working on a remix of 80s band The Thompson twins hit single “in the name of love” aswell as working on brand new material due for release late 2019
