Jay Kay Biography

JayKay first got his love for House music in the early 1990s by attending Essex’s infamous underground house nights such as Joe Fridays, Loveland & Perfect Virtue on a weekly basis.

After years of practicing on vinyl and recording mix after mix tape for club promoters he finally got a break in the mid 1990s playing for Lets Groove & Too Damn Cheeky at some of Londons best and most loved underground venues. The Cross at Kings Cross become a bi weekly event for where he played alongside some of the legends of house including a then young Mark Knight who was also finding his way. Huge name’s playing on the same bill like Danny Rampling became a big influence, and so the journey started, to become one of the best for his style tune for tune.

The famous Hanover Grand was up next as was the incredible Legends club on old Burlington street where he played regular slots in the early 2000s. Playing for Kiss 100 in the basement of Hanover Grand was one of many of his proudest moments, the atmosphere almost buzzing louder than the sound system! The London scene was rocking and so was JayKay, albeit flying just below the superstar dj status.

JayKay become a regular face playing for the hugely popular London night WTF at clubs such as the world famous Ministry of Sound, Pacha, regular Thames boat parties and Buddha Lounge.

Teaming up with his long time friend dj Clarkee in 2009 to form house duo ‘The Dirty Stopouts’, he continued playing out on a regular basis at clubs such as EC1, Ikon, Lightbox, Bar Zero and various high class underground parties including the residence of the iconic retro indie band The WHO. Promoting their own events from 2012-2014 The Dirty Stopouts continued to bring that uplifting vibe to the south east with regular sold out boat parties on the River Thames and packed after parties at the likes of Pacha London, McQueen and Sugar Hut.

Residencies at McQueen for 90s Jam, Playhouse and Red Door followed for JayKay as did huge events such as We Are FSTVL in 2013 & 2015, paving the way for his love of day time parties.

Other Legendary clubs which are not mentioned above and are also in the memory bank such as “Splash” Epping Forest Country Club, “Perfect Virtue” Storm and BN3 Ibiza were also absolutely rocking when JayKay was booked in to play their parties.
